Who’s YOUR favorite show horse?

Whether you’ve been involved with the Arabian horse breed for a week or for your entire life, you’re bound to have a favorite. There is always that ONE horse that catches your eye, you find yourself scouting the entry book and highlighting all of their classes, and you will drop everything to make sure you’re there to watch it perform, yes THAT horse. We selected 10 individuals across the show-grounds today to see who their favorite show horse was and why…

Shannon Pullifrone: Born Ta Boogie

“He just, to me is the epitome of an English Horse. Not only is he beautiful, effortless, and just so talented and gifted. He is FUN to watch and even more fun to ride!”

Ashley Abraham: Revelation JF

“He never misses a beat and has that presence that gives me goosebumps. He is so dang pretty, oh what I would give to ride him just once around the arena! He is just incredible!”

Michael Perry: Paparazzi

“His presence in the show arena is always a crowd favorite. He has great stamina and cadence and he will catch your attention from the beginning to end.”

Rhonda White: Verucci
“He has quite the personality, and not to mention he is a fantastic mover! Just a great horse all-around!”

Patrick Trowbridge: Red Tape

“He is one of the most winning Purebred Park horses of all time, and my wife happened to show him. I think that in itself is enough to qualify him as my all-time favorite show horse!” :)

Greg Harris: Khadraj NA

“He is probably the nicest horse I have ever ridden! He is great minded and is always very honest in the show ring, I couldn’t ask more out of a show horse!”

Mary Wilson: DC One Man Show

“He is always happy and willing to go. He is game and turns it on in the arena, not to mention he is a blast to be around and has the best personality!”

Hannah Shafer: Baske

“He has accomplished so much ad he is just breathtaking. He is just just such a unique horse and I love watching him perform!”

Isaac Taylor: El Dorada

“She is the perfect combination of beauty and function. She was just as beautiful trotting in the arena as she was standing in the middle, truly breathtaking!”

Mary Cichon: Sophisticated Lady

“I like her because she truly lives up to her name. With watching her show for years, she is one of the only horses that gives me goosebumps every time I see her in the ring. She always leaves me wanting more!”

Three Girls and a Horse Show

The Scottsdale show means different things to every individual involved, and for three young ladies, this definitely rings true. The group was comprised of one current exhibitor, one girl who isn’t showing here this year, but has in the past, and one girl who is experiencing her first horse show ever! I was able to spend an afternoon with these three bubbly youngn’s talking about what they love about Scottsdale and taking pictures with their favorite shopping items…. So, here they are–meet the girls!

Jenna TeKolste

Scottsdale Status: Past exhibitor

Favorite Class at this show: HA/AA Hunter Pleasure 14-17

Favorite Thing to shop for: Riding jods and hats

Jenna was able to attend the AHT Readers’ Choice Banquet on Thursday night, describing it as “an awesome atmosphere! It felt like Hollywood with the red carpet and pictures–I hope I can go again next year!”

As any horse rider may feel when they are “horseless” at a show like Scottsdale, Jenna, too, wishes that she was showing here. But she does love the sun, watching classes, the food (see below), and like most horse girls, the shopping.

Alexa Tiziani

Scottsdale Status: Current Exhibitor

Favorite Class at the Show: Park

Favorite Thing to shop for: New horses

Alexa has been attending the Scottsdale show “since she was zero,” however, this is her first time showing here. In her first two classes with her Half-Arabian western horse Platinum Nights, Alexa has taken home the Scottsdale blue! And with two classes remaining, this Minnesota native  is thrilled with her first show. “This is only our second show season together, and he’s only 5, but I really trust him! I love showing at Scottsdale!” Her mom is also showing her horse at the show, but Alexa maintains that she might just be “better than her mom” ;) which keeps her from getting too nervous!

Samantha Rosinky

Scottsdale Status: First horse show ever

Favorite Class at the Show: Native Costume

Favorite Thing to shop for: Jods and new hunt boots

Samantha recently purchased her first Arabian, and is definitely a newcomer in the show circuit. As a fresh spectator, this South Dakota girl is full of questions about basically everything. “I’ve been asking Jenna so many questions! But I guess now I know the difference between equitation and pleasure!” Sam enjoys watching the youth classes best, and loves the horse show atmosphere.

SHOPPING EXPO FUN:

In our trek around the shopping vendors, the girls came across a mountain of ice cream and their favorite shopping items…

How do YOU get over your Pre-Show JITTERS?!?

If you’ve ever shown a horse, you’re more than aware of what usually happens before entering the show-ring, nerves and jitters! Everything seems fine and the second you slide your boots into the irons and grab your reins, you seem to become someone else and second guess everything. Do I remember my pattern? What did my trainer say that I’m supposed to remember? More curb or more snaffle? What’s my back number again? We’ve all come to accept this is going to happen, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t come up with our own unique ways to tell them GOOD RIDDANCE. For me, nerves have always come with the territory of showing horses, the one thing that I personally do before entering the ring is to make sure I remind myself of how hard I’ve worked to get where I am and to have FUN, that is after-all why we all started this crazy habit in the first place right? :)

Today we interviewed exhibitors who are showing here at Scottsdale and asked them to share their pre-show strategies and the unique ways they cope with their nerves. So the next time you find your nerves getting the best of you before you enter the ring, give one of these great tips a try :)

Chloe Holmes
“Before entering any class that I’m showing in, I think about all the competition and try to remember that they’re going through exactly what I am. I also make a list of everything that I need to remember to make my ride successful, and go over and over it in my head before getting on my horse”

Amanda Purdin
“I know this sounds weird, but when I show my cutting horses I always have to be wearing my lucky shirt. I remember that at a recent show, I wore that same shirt 4 times in one day, but hey it worked! Before entering the ring, I make sure I stretch, then get on my horse in the warm up pen and jog him around exactly 3 times without my stirrups to find my balance, finally I take a deep breath, and GO!”

Koy Moody
“Before entering the ring, I always make sure that I’m wearing my lucky lapel pin on my coat. I also make myself a list of things to do with each horse before I showing. I constantly remind myself that I’m here to do what I love and follow my passion. Last but not least, I make sure that I always always ALWAYS give it my ALL!”

Lillian Coury
“To calm my nerves before showing, I watch my trainer in the warm-up pen and visualize my ride on my horse and myself in the show arena. When I’m in the ring I envision my trainers voice and replay the tips that I received over and over. I like to think of myself and my horse in a bubble making sure we don’t bump into anything and that we have an uneventful very smooth ride. I also make sure to eat, sleep and stretch well before each and every show.”

Adam Rickart
“The only thing I can say I make sure of at every show before entering the ring is that I look great! GTL baby!” (Jersey Shore reference lol)

Olivia Stull
“Before entering the ring I always visualize my ride and remind myself that it will go well and that I need to stay out of my horses way, so that he can perform to his full potential. I make sure to take a few extra deep breaths, go into the ring with confidence and hope for the best!” (Olivia placed 1st in her Native Costume class today, congrats Olivia!)

Hillary Hoffman
“I like to go into the show arena before I show and watch how the classes are flowing, I picture myself in the ring having a great ride without any problems. I like to visualize all of my transitions and visualize exactly how I want my ride to go. I also make a list of things I need to remember in my head and replay them while I’m in the corners and have a chance to think. It might sound weird, but putting on my make-up before my class really relaxes me and having Chelsea Knoop do my hair always puts me at ease! Thank you Chelsea!” :)

Juliette Dell
“The second I sit in the saddle my pre-show jitters always seem to fade away. To be honest, there isn’t much that I do before entering the ring besides giving it my all and reminding myself how hard I worked to get where I am, I’m pretty boring! lol”

Molly Kressbauch
“Before entering the ring I make sure that I spend some one on one time with my horse in his stall just loving on him and really focusing on the class or pattern at hand. My nerves have really improved since my youth years, thankfully!”

Kasey Moffat
“I always distract myself from ever getting too nervous before showing my horse. I try to block out thinking about anything else other than doing well and having a fun, clean ride!”

So there you have it, TEN ways to calm your nerves before you show! Now you have no excuse to let your nerves get the best of you the next time you enter the ring :) Good luck!

Micalea’s “Must Haves” of Scottsdale 2012!

We asked youth exhibitor Micaela Urie to scope out the vendor tents and pick out ten outstanding items that no “horsey” individual should be without. Check out Micaela’s blog of what she found to be the “Must Haves” of 2012!

Go N Show N Again
“Bling Hats”! Venita customizes all of these hats and makes each one of them so unique and different! I love them because they are all so original and no two are the same. Definitely a stand out item!

Hat Palace
I love all of the boot choices that the Hat Palace has to offer. There is NO way you can walk into this store and not find something that you’ll love!

S.R. Gold
This vendor REALLY caught my eye when I walked by because there was bling, and a ton of it! The item that caught my attention the most was a very unique “horse-shoe” ring. I am definitely thinking this is something I MUST have :)

Texas Tack
Texas Tack carries a HUGE selection of one of my favorite brands, BB Simon! I love these sparkly belts, whenever I see one of these fabulous items they make me think of a horse show, which is ultimately one of my favorite places to be! Everyone girl should own at least one!

The Hat Lady
Terri has a ton of GORGEOUS hair pins to choose from, this is one item you can never have enough of! It’s impossible for me to pick which color because I want them all!

Zia Graphics
The blankets are softer than soft and the artwork on the blankets is unbelievable! The artist’s name is Shary Akers and after talking with her about her beautiful items I was surprised to find out she also does the cover artwork for the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show, how cool!

Sculpture in Bronze
When I saw these bronzes up close and personal they took my breath away! Two that really stood out for me were “One of a Kind” & “Time to Shine”. I would love to be able to call one of these stunning bronzes my own!

Good Ride
I absolutely LOVE Good Rides clothing, and the sayings on the back are too cool! They are inspiring and every girl should be wearing one of these kick-butt shirts around the show :) They also have the coolest Mens shirts, very trendy and fun!

Bling Tie Affair
The detail of these ties are amazing. If you want to stand out and get noticed in the show-ring, this is the place to be girls!

Peek-a-Boo Eyewear
With an overwhelming amount of glasses to choose from, from just TEN dollars, it was nearly impossible for me to choose just one pair that I liked. Everyone should be sporting these fun glasses around sunny Scottsdale, my favorite was the lime-green glasses, they’re bright and fun!
